ONE DAY WORKSHOP-DEVELOPING PISA LIKE ITEMS IN MATHEMATICS

by Dr. Thien Lei Mee

The results of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2012 showed that the mean score of mathematics literacy was relatively lower than the OECD average in some participating countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The results revealed the challenges faced by these countries to enhance students’ performance particularly in mathematics literacy. Hence, it is timely to expose and introduce participants the PISA assessment framework of mathematics literacy followed by developing the PISA like items in mathematics based on PISA assessment framework. The first part of the workshop is an overview of PISA 2012 assessment framework in mathematics literacy.  In the second part, the participants will learn how to develop the PISA like items based on the content category, cognitive process, context, level of difficulty and scoring guides. Participants will present their self-developed PISA like items and collective feedback will be given for further improvement. At the end of the workshop, participants are expected to have a better understanding on how to develop PISA like items in mathematics.

Target Group: school teachers, officers from Ministry of Education, researchers and undergraduate/postgraduate students.

Number of participants:  Limited to 25 participants
