About ISMEI
The International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI) is an international symposium organized by the SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM). First held in 2011, ISMEI is organized biennially, bringing together teachers, education professionals, researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share works, ideas, and innovations in mathematics education.
Since its establishment, ISMEI has provided a space for disseminating works and exchanging ideas about innovations in mathematics education. The symposium provides opportunities for participants from different educational contexts to share their experiences, present their work, and discuss developments and innovations related to mathematics teaching and learning.
Each edition of ISMEI addresses themes and issues relevant to the development of mathematics education. Over the years, the symposium has provided a forum for discussing various aspects of mathematics education, including teaching and learning practices, innovation, technology, and emerging trends in the field.
In 2026, ISMEI enters its 9th edition. The 9th ISMEI will be held on 14–15 October 2026 in collaboration with the International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education (ICMSE) 2026, organized by Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The 9th ISMEI focuses on the synergy between STEM and Computational Thinking, with the theme “Synergizing STEM and Computational Thinking for Sustainable and Inclusive Education.”
Through its biennial editions, ISMEI continues to bring together members of the mathematics education community to share works, exchange ideas, and discuss innovations in mathematics education. Each edition provides an opportunity to explore current issues and emerging developments in the field within an international setting.
About ICMSE
The International Conference on Mathematics, Science, and Education (ICMSE) is an international academic conference organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The conference brings together academics, researchers, educators, students, and practitioners to present and discuss research and developments in mathematics, natural sciences, and education.
ICMSE is held annually and has provided a forum for participants from Indonesia and other countries to share research findings and engage in discussions on mathematics, science, and education. In its 9th edition in 2022, ICMSE was held online and brought together participants from both Indonesia and abroad.
In 2026, ICMSE enters its 12th edition. The 12th ICMSE will be held on 14–15 October 2026 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang, in a hybrid format. The 2026 edition is organized as a joint international conference with the 9th International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI), in collaboration between UNNES and the SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM).
For 2026, ICMSE has a multidisciplinary focus covering mathematics, natural sciences, sustainability, innovation, and science and mathematics education. Its conference tracks include mathematical, computational, and data sciences for sustainability; natural sciences, environment, and sustainable innovation; and science and mathematics education for sustainable development.
The 12th ICMSE and 9th ISMEI will be held as a joint conference under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Futures through Mathematics, Natural Sciences, STEM, and Transformative Education.” Through this collaboration, the conference brings together the broader multidisciplinary scope of ICMSE and the focused areas of ISMEI in mathematics education, STEM, and computational thinking.
